On behalf of the staff and Board of Trustees of the Carroll County Public Library, I would like to thank all who helped make our Summer Reading Program, “Catch the Reading Bug” such a success.
Eighty-one children completed the program and were rewarded with gift certificates from local businesses: McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Subway, Sonic, Papa John’s Pizza, and Hometown Pizza. The generosity of the local managers and owners is so appreciated. The readers loved looking in their book bags to see what they had received.
Also, General Butler State Resort Park and Vanity Fair gave us gift certificates for our grand prizes. Receiving those prizes is always a thrill for the winners.
Thanks, too, to Kroger for the discount on the fried chicken we served at our picnic and to First National Bank for financing the full-page ad promoting the program in the newspaper.
The News-Democrat did a wonderful job covering our activities each week.
We are able to have outstanding programs as a result of the sponsorship of Ohio Valley United Charities Inc. each year.
This year our picnic was held at the library in the space behind the building. Our thanks to the City of Carrollton and the street department for providing us with picnic tables, and to the Carroll County Fair Board and staff from the Carroll County Detention Center for setting up the tent.
I also want to thank members of the library staff who cooked and helped with the picnic, and were always there to help with crafts or whatever else I needed them to do.
Finally, thanks to all of the parents who brought their children to the programs, read to their children or made sure the children were filling out their reading logs. This is the first year that we have had children from our Spanish-speaking population complete the program. Eduardo Hererra and Yahel Lopez both completed the program and attended the picnic with their families.
