Trimble County is the point of origin for the broadcast signal of a new radio station that joined the airwaves yesterday.

Good Shepherd Radio, Inc., based in Columbus, Ind., has added WHMO, located at 91.1 on the FM dial, to the company’s family of southern gospel broadcast properties. Although transmission facilities are in Trimble County and programming will be generated in Columbus, the station’s identity will be as a Madison radio station, joining WORX 96.7 FM, WXGO 1270 AM and WIKI 95.3 FM.

“We will be using the WIKI tower (located on Cull’s Ridge in Trimble County,” WHMO Station Manager Steve Fisher told The Trimble Banner in an email. “Programming will be here in Columbus. Hardware will be in your back yard. Our investment is over 30K for dish, antennae, cable, trenching, electrical and miscellaneous expenses.”

A spokesperson for WIKI radio verified on Monday that the new station will share that broadcast entity’s transmission facilities.

“We are excited to better serve Madison, Indiana, and surrounding areas,” Keith Reising, Chairman of the Board for Good Shepherd Radio, Inc., said in a news release.

WHMO is a full service, Christian, gospel station whose target demographic has a core of adults 25 and above, and which is expanded to reach all family members by way of special programming and “teaching ministries.”

WHMO is 90 percent music, upbeat and inspirational gospel featuring artists like: The Gaither Vocal Band; Gold City; Kingsmen Quartet; The Crabb Family; Brian Free & Assurance; and much more.

Good Shepherd Radio seeks to obey Christ’s charge to Peter, “Feed My sheep” (John 21) by equipping the saints and building the body of Christ. The power of radio will provide information, encouragement, companionship, and entertainment through Christian educational programming, mindful of the Apostle Paul’s admonition that “whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31) The family of radio stations at 88.1 FM, 89.1 FM, and 91.1 FM, will serve the South Central Indiana/northern Kentucky Christian community with a family-focused ministry, uplifting music, adult fellowship, an ecumenical forum, issues programming, news of worthwhile local causes and events, the release said. “WYGS/WHMO is listener supported and we are anxious to meet ministry partners, not-for-profits, and corporate sponsors, who welcome Christian radio to the greater Madison/Trimble County area,” Reising said.
