When Carroll County coroner David Wilhoite went to the annual Kentucky Coroners Conference April 20-23, topics such as suicide prevention and investigative techniques were on the agenda, but one topic was particularly pressing—prescription painkillers.
In a national survey on drug use and health in 2008, which was given as supportive research at the conference, Kentucky was the sixth highest state in 2006-2007 for non-medical use of prescription pain relievers.
