An Owen County man has died from injuries sustained in a three-vehicle incident Aug. 2, in front of McDonalds at 3149 Hwy. 227.

James See, 68, of Wheatley, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at University of Louisville Hospital. He and Debra See, 54, also of Wheatley, and Amanda Pope, 20, of Carrollton, were flown from the scene to the hospital. Debra See and Pope have both been released from the hospital, according to Kentucky State Police Public Information Officer Trooper Brad Arterburn Tuesday.

Pope was driving northbound on Hwy. 227 when she ran into the back end of a vehicle driven by James See, according to Kentucky State Police. Debra See was the passenger in his vehicle.

The crash knocked the See’s vehicle into a guardrail, and then it was struck in the side by a southbound SUV driven by Janice Loveless, 61, of Mt. Carmel, Ill. She had two passengers in the rear seat of the vehicle, a one-year-old and a five-year-old.

James and Debra See were not wearing seat belts and were both ejected from the vehicle, according to state police. All others involved were wearing seat belts.

Loveless and the two children were not injured.

Trooper Jennifer Johnson, an accident reconstructionist from Post 12, is investigating the incident.

A toxicology report on Pope is pending. The decision whether or not to file charges will be determined after the results are in, which could take a few months, Arterburn said.
