Band Boosters say thanks for support

The Trimble County Band Boosters would like to thank everyone who came out to support the band program by purchasing a fish dinner on Saturday. Special thanks to Bob Yowler for his donation.

Through the generous support of our community, we are able to continue to provide an outstanding music experience for the children of our county.

Everyone talks about the state of education in America today, but the cold, hard reality is education has seen many budget cuts over recent years.  Arts are always one of the first places politicians look to trim budgets. Many people are surprised to learn that school band programs receive very little financial support from the school districts. Operating and maintaining a quality band program is very expensive; fund-raising becomes more challenging every year.

This year the need is very great. Band camp is coming up next week at the high school.  Donations of Gatorade and bottled water are urgently needed.  Band instruments, especially drum heads, must be replaced.  Items such as sheet music, uniforms and color-guard equipment are not funded by the district, and the Band Boosters will pick up these expenses as well.

New carpeting is desperately needed in the high school band room to improve accoustics.

Please remember this: While the classroom affords a great place to build knowledge and try new skills, extra-curricular activities such as marching and concert band, and music programs in general, help students develop life skills, too, such as commitment to others, precision, leadership, coordination, acceptance of differences and team work. These skills are critical to the academic and lifetime professional success of all students.

Watch for more fund-raising activities coming up this fall, and thanks in advance for your support.
