Carroll crushes Eminence, 29-0

The Panthers scored 15 runs in the first inning, cruising to a 29-0 landslide victory over Eminence Thursday. Chase Osborne earned the win on the mound, pitching three innings. The senior lefty struck out seven, walked one and gave up two hits.

Fellow senior A.J. Dixon pitched two innings, giving up just one hit, striking out four and hitting one batter.

The Panthers collected 23 hits, and the Warriors also gave up seven errors.

Sophomore Austin Dunn was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle, leading the team with five RBIs. Zach Beckham had four RBIs off of two singles, while Jacob Wise collected three RBIs off of two doubles.

Trey Boles (double, triple), Zakk Hicks (single, double) and Dixon (three singles) each had two RBIs. Derrick Nickell (two singles), Brad Robbins (single), Keifer McIntyre (single) and Boo Donahue (single) each had one RBI. Dillon Craig and John Michael Adams each had two singles.

Carroll defeats Owen

In a true pitchers’ duel, the Panthers pulled out a 2-1 district road win at Owen County in nine innings Saturday, March 30.

Senior Trey Boles pitched six innings, striking out eight batters and walking just one. John Michael Adams pitched three innings, striking out three batters with just one walk, to earn the win. Owen County starter Jarrod Ball pitched five innings with three strikeouts and one walk. Nolan Tackett came in for relief, giving up two hits and striking out one batter.

Carroll senior Dillon Craig started things off with a bang, hitting a home run over the right field fence in the first at-bat of the game.

Both teams had runners on the corners in the second inning, but neither could convert.

Owen got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Ball sent a double to centerfield and scored on an RBI single by Sonny Berry.

In the bottom of the sixth, Owen had two runners on, but Boles struck out the last batter to end the side.

Carroll threatened in the top of the eighth inning, loading the bases with two outs. But a fly out to centerfield ended the inning.

In the top of the ninth with two outs, Jacob Wise singled to shortstop. As he attempted to steal second, Owen County made an errant throw, and Wise advanced to third. Austin Dunn reached base on an error by the shortstop, and Wise scored, 2-1.

Adams gave up a walk in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out the next batter looking for the first out. The next two batters flied out to the outfield, ending the game.

Craig led the team with the home run and a single, while Zakk Hicks doubled. Adams hit two singles, while Wise and Chase Osborne hit one single
