The Panthers won the SE Kentucky Invitational last weekend in Bell County, Ky.
In game one Friday, Ethan Stewart struck out nine batters as Carroll defeated host Bell County, 13-5.
Head coach Jay Jones said the game was closer than the score made it appear. “Bell hit the ball hard all night, just right at us,” he said. “We made plays, and Ethan dominated the bottom half of their lineup.”
With a three-run lead, Zach Wise hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to blow the game wide open.
In game two Saturday, Carroll trailed most of the game, but made a comeback in the sixth inning. Wise and Craig hit back-to-back doubles to start the rally, and the Panthers plated five runs in the inning.
The Panthers won 5-3, and Tyler Gross pitched a complete game to get the win.
For the tournament, Wise was 5-8 with three doubles and a grand slam, while Craig was 5-7 with four doubles.
“It was a great experience for us to play new teams and see new things,” Jones said. “Our players had a great time and became a little closer as brothers. They will remember the trip for a long time, and so will I.”
