Boys’ tennis defeats Grant, 4-1

The Carroll boys’ tennis team overpowered first-year program Grant County, 4-1, on Tuesday April 12. While Carroll won most of the matches, head coach Juan Fernandez said there is room for improvement.

“A special mention to Tim Yup,” he said, “even (though) he lost, (it was) his first match he did very well and came back from (being) down 0-5 to 5-5 in the first set.”

Results: No. 1 singles Carroll’s Raven Powers won 6-1, 6-1 over Grant’s Zachary Bolen; No. 2 singles Carroll’s Josh McCarty won 6-4, 6-1 over Grant’s Alex Schimpff; No. 3 singles Grant’s Troy Jump won 5-7, 6-7 over Carroll’s Tim Yup. No. 1 doubles Carroll’s Dakota Corbin and Leo Raffenberg won 6-2, 6-3 over Grant’s Brian Perry and Michael Steenken; No. 2 doubles Carroll’s Gabe Kates and Joe Gemmer won 6-0, 6-4 over Grant’s Ricky Noel and Cedric Aice.
