The Panthers tennis team defeated rival Gallatin County, 4-1, March 27 at Warsaw. Head coach Juan Fernandez said No. 1 and 2 singles players Sergio Pascual and Josh McCarty dominated their matches. But the match of the night was the No. 1 doubles match between Carroll’s Joe Gemmer and Dakota Corbin and Gallatin’s Eli Ackermann and Luke Ackermann. Fernandez said both of his players have been improving a lot from last year. The match was very close, and the “points were well fought and with a really high level of energy,” he said. With the victory, the pair gave Gallatin a little payback from last season in which the Wildcats won all three matches between the duos.

Overall, Fernandez said he was very happy with the team’s performance, but they need to work on minimizing unforced errors, attacking more and improving their footwork.

No. 1 singles, Carroll’s Sergio Pascual defeated Gallatin’s Garret Dameron, 6-1, 6-2; No. 2 singles, Carroll’s Josh McCarty defeated Gallatin’s Brady Carlton, 6-2, 6-3; No. 3 singles, Gallatin’s Trevor Lewis defeated Carroll’s Noah Abercrombie, 8-2.

No. 1 doubles, Carroll’s Joe Gemmer and Dakota Corbin defeated Gallatin’s Eli Ackermann and Luke Ackermann 7-5, 6-4; No. 2 doubles, Carroll’s Gabe Kates and Thomas Hill defeated Gallatin 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
