With the help of our community, our toy drive was a huge success. We were able to take two carloads of toys, gift cards and Christmas cards to Kosair Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House nin Louisville.
When we were unable to shake the need to buy presents for our son, Brinley, who lost his battle to Hurler Syndrome in April 2009, we decided what better than to buy them and just donate them. We talked it over with our girls, and they too wanted to skip out on gifts for themselves and give to ill children and their families who couldn’t get to spend the Holiday’s at home. We shared our idea to friends and family, as we were very proud of our girls for wanting to do this, and soon everyone was donating gifts in memory of our Brinley. This sparked the idea of a toy drive in memory of our little guy.
Mainsource Bank, Milton Elementary School, and Madison Gymnastics World also got involved, donating time, providing us with advertisements, and spreading the word, and the use of their facilities for drop-off sites.
The response was incredible. Once again, the community pulled together and made lots of children smile this holiday season. Not only was it a wonderful and warm-hearted act of kindness, but it touched us on a personal level as well. We are truly amazed every day on the number of people who think of Brinley and his sisters, and how many people they have touched and have helped to make a difference.
I can’t tell you the overwhelming feeling it gave us to watch Lilly and Molly happily hand over all these gifts and tell them they are in memory of their little brother.
