A Carrollton couple was killed in an early morning collision Saturday, Nov. 21, on state Hwy. 36 at Hampton Lane, just past the Trimble County line.

Benjamin Edwards, 30, of Carrollton was driving a Chevy S-10 pickup truck eastbound on 36 at about 2:19 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a Ford passenger car driven by Kelly Strausbaugh, 30, also of Carrollton, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

The truck went over an embankment and caught fire after coming to rest on the north side of the roadway, the release said.

Edwards wife, Christa Edwards, 23, was ejected from the truck after the collision. Neither she nor the driver was wearing a seat belt.

The couple was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County Coroner David Wilhoite. Because of the fire, positive identification was delayed, said Trooper Seth Willis, public affairs officer for KSP Post 5 in Campbellsburg.

Strausbaugh was transported by medical helicopter to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. She was discharged Monday, Nov. 23.

The collision is still under investigation by Trooper Matt Corbin. Assisting at the scene were troopers Brandon Maupin and Kurt Buhts, Westside Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Carroll County Emergency Medical Service, Milton Volunteer Fire and Rescue, PHI Medical Transport and Coroner Wilhoite.
