Champions, Haven of Hope partner for Teen Night Feb. 26

-A A +A

Substance abuse, teen pregnancy and health issues, what do all of these things have in common? They are topics that adolescents face daily. Temptation to make bad decisions occurs every day, whether it’s through peer pressure, marketing tactics or personal dealings.

As Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County Chair and Community Health Planner at the Carroll County Health Department I see the unfortunate correlation between these issues and realize that we need to work together to combat the growing statistics in all of these facets.

Haven of Hope’s Director Maria Breeden has asked me to partner with her organization on an upcoming event, and seeing how all of these issues go hand in hand with the topics that are so present in Carroll County today, it was a no brainer for me to jump on board with this partnership.

The event is called, simply, “Teen Night” and is targeted for teenage girls between the ages of 13-18. It will be held from 6-9 p.m., on Feb. 26, at Haven of Hope Pregnancy Center, 537 Highland Ave. Carrollton. It will be a fun night to relax and enjoy other young ladies’ company–a chance to get together and have a pizza party complete with full makeovers, hair dos, games and more. Instead of a presentation or forced lecture, we decided this would be a great opportunity for girls to learn the consequences and risks of teenage pregnancy while also having a relaxing night. A win-win opportunity in an adult’s eyes. You daughter or loved one will learn about these topics in a laid back fashion so they’re not intimidated or uncomfortable.

Other resources including substance abuse and living a healthy lifestyle will also be offered on this night, made possible by Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County and The Carroll County Health Department. We are encouraging girls to bring a friend or family member and youth groups or Girl Scout troops are also welcome to attend.

Please RSVP by contacting myself at (502) 525-3571 or Maria at (502) 732-8575. Let us know how many will be attending. Those who RSVP will receive a free goodie bag made possible by community partners, which will include fun cosmetic items.

If you are interested in attending to help with hair or makeup application or if you’d just like to join the fun and conversation, please give me a call. Also, if you would like to donate trial size cosmetic items or free samples of makeup please contact me. The more the merrier! Join us on this “Teen Night” for feminine fun and education.
