The probationary period for Carrollton’s city employees may be reduced from six months to four.
Mayor Gene McMurry proposed that City Council change the requirement so that four new hires could be made permanent before Jan. 1, when the state’s new retirement system becomes effective.
Unless the policy is changed, two new emergency dispatchers and two new police officers will not become permanent employees until after that deadline, McMurry said. City employees are not eligible for benefits until they complete the probationary period.
