Three Rivers District Health Department began its first annual community-wide weight loss competition, Waist Management on Tuesday. It’s not too late to join in. Participants can miss three weekly weigh-ins and still qualify for grand prize winnings, so even if you missed the first week, there is still time to register. Rules and registration forms can be picked up at the Health Department, the Extension Office, the Library and various other locations around the county. To compete, participants must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in Carroll County. All $20 registration fees are added to the total prize money. The male and female with the highest percentage of weight loss will split the prize money at the end of the 12-week competition. The specifics regarding Tuesday weigh-in times and locations are included in the rules.
This is a weight-loss contest, but it is also a beginning to an overall healthy lifestyle. Anyone who registers will receive weekly tools in the form of tips and challenges that will help them learn to change behaviors and form new habits. Accepting the challenges and following the tips will empower participants to live a healthy lifestyle. While the competition factor, losing weight and winning money are nice perks, the main goal is to encourage healthy, high quality lives. This is a great opportunity for Carroll County residents to get on track for health and wellness. It’s a great time to think back to those New Year’s Resolutions and either keep them going or give them a new boost.
