First reading to amend CU sewer rates

By Kristin Beck

Carrollton City Council heard the first reading for Ordinance 2011-03 amending sewer rates for Carrollton Utilities customers at their meeting Jan. 24. Carrollton Utilities Manager Bill Osborne explained the purpose of the change was to add debt service on to the out of town rate for Ghent customers.

In an interview Monday, Jan. 31, Osborne said in the current ordinance, the debt service was not built into Ghent’s rate. However, it was already accounted for when the customers received their first bill during the first week of January. “This rate will be the same rate they saw on their first bill,” he said.

For the first 1,000 gallons, Ghent’s rate is $10.02 plus $1.49 debt service for a minimum of $11.51. The rate over 1,000 gallons is $5.25 plus $1.49 debt service, equaling $6.74 per 1,000 gallons. The actual out of town rate did not increase.

The ordinance also clarified that Happy Hollow and the Eagle Creek Resort and Campground are a part of the Worthville system.

There were no other changes to the ordinance.
