Crash injures one on detour around bridge

A motorcyclist was injured and flown to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being involved in an incident on Hunters Heights Road just before 10 a.m. onThursday, Aug. 15.

Vernon Abney Jr., 52, of Madison, Ind., was driving a motorcycle on Hunters Heights Road when he met an SUV driven by Mitchell Ellis, 23, of Bedford, Ky., in the road, and they side swiped each other, according to Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Trooper Brad Arterburn. Air Methods flew Abney to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a helmet, according to state police.

Ellis was not injured.

Trooper Dusty Corbin, an accident reconstructionist, is investigating the incident. No alcohol or drugs were involved, state police said.

Another motorcycle driven by David Moreland, 33, of La Grange, Ky., came upon the crash and had to lay his motorcycle down to avoid hitting it. He had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Moreland was wearing a helmet.

Carroll County EMS, Westside Volunteer Fire Department, Carroll County Rescue and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
