Dale Earnhardt Jr. pole winner for Quaker State 400

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Coors Light Pole Award Friday for the third annual Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts at the Kentucky Speedway, with a lap of 29.406 seconds at 183.636 miles per hour. His qualifying speed set a track qualifying record previously held by Jimmie Johnson (181.818 mph) from June 30, 2012. Nine different drivers posted faster laps than the previous record.

Earnhardt, driving the No. 88 National Guard Youth Foundation Chevrolet, earned his first pole in three races at Kentucky Speedway. This is his first pole and third top-10 start in 2013, and his 12th pole in 486 NASCAR Sprint Cup Races.

Carl Edwards finished in second, his eighth top-10 start of 2013. Jimmie Johnson placed third for his ninth top-10 start in 17 races this season.
