CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. —Ethel Mae Spaulding Baker, 81, formerly of Carrollton, Ky. died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill, N.Y.
There will be a memorial service in Carrollton in the summer of 2013.
Mrs. Baker was born on Jan. 2, 1931, to William Spaulding and Nell Case in Shelby County, Ky., and grew up in the Cropper and Christenberg communities. She graduated as valedictorian from Cropper High School.
She married Shelby Baker on June 22, 1951 in Shelbyville after a four-year courtship and the couple were able to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary earlier this year. They lived in Frankfort, Ky., for seven years and started their family there with the birth of two sons. They moved to Carrollton in 1958 and lived there for 49 years before moving to Croton-on-Hudson in 2007.
Mrs. Baker was very active in the community serving on the PTA, as president for the Younger Woman’s Club, den mother in Cub Scouts, and many other activities for both school and church and enjoyed performing with the Carrollton Players.
She was totally devoted to her family and stood by her husband’s side all through his long battle with Parkinson’s disease as his primary caregiver for as long as she was physically able to do so. She was a strong, passionate and loving woman and will be greatly missed by her family.
Survivors include her eldest son Barney, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and youngest son David, daughter-in-law Jayne, and grandson Aidan all of Croton-on-Hudson.
