“Relatives Raising Children” to meet

Are you raising your grandchild, niece, nephew or providing a home as a parent to a child other than your own? Are you experiencing a variety of different issues, concerns and wish you had some place to turn to get some support and some answers?

All grandparents or other relatives raising children other than their own are invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 3 at the Carroll County Middle School.

This new group, “Relatives Raising Children” will hold monthly meetings at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of the month to offer support and provide answers to some of the questions and needs of these parents.

At the session tomorrow, attorney Nick Marsh will provide a program and answer questions on legal issues of concern to relatives raising children.

Grandparents and other relatives make numerous sacrifices in order to provide a better life for their grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or other children.

These children are loved and need a secure, steady home life.

One of the purposes of these sessions is to help our Carroll County relatives provide the best possible care for their grandchildren or other children in their care while still taking care of their own health and well-being.

According to 2011 data from the Building Strong Families Report for Carroll County by the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, there are 243 grandchildren less than 18 years old living with a grandparent householder in Carroll County. This does not include children living with other relatives.
