Wednesday was the last day of operation for the U.S. Post Office in Ghent. At left, Postmaster Retta Lykins talks with customer Ray Stahl, who owns a sawmill on Buck’s Run. He has been a customer at the office for 16 years. As he turned in his box key, he told Lykins it had been on that very key ring since the day she gave it to him when he opened the box.
Barbara Sharon stopped in for a final visit and to purchase stamps, possibly the last ones that Lykins will sell. With the office closing, Lykins said she will retire after 38 years of serving the community. Ghent residents will now be served through the post office in Warsaw. Those with P.O. boxes had to install rural route boxes to receive their mail.
