The city of Carrollton will hold a Family Celebration Aug. 31 at Point Park, featuring the events, entertainment and fireworks that were rained out on the Fourth of July.

Country music singers T.G. Sheppard and Kelly Lang will headline a concert before the firework spectacle. A local musician will perform as the night’s opening act.

Many of the vendors who were going to take part in July have signed up for the Labor Day weekend event, including food vendors, arts and crafts, flea market, local merchants and organizations. The Carroll County Fair Board also will be serving food.

Inflatables for the children will be set up from noon to 8 p.m.

Amazed by Grace will be at the tobacco festival tent from 4-6 p.m.

The Kountry Kickers Cloggers will perform from 5:15-6:15 p.m., followed by the night’s opening act.

Officials are working to secure a local musician to kick off the evening with a pre-show concert at 6:15 p.m., and Sheppard and Lang, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Before the concert at 6 p.m., Lang will talk about her experience as a breast cancer survivor and promote awareness for breast cancer. There also will be a 12-minute tribute video to the late George Jones at 9:35 p.m.

The Carroll County Honor Guard will present the flag on stage at 9:50 p.m.

At about 10 p.m., the country duo will wrap up their concert by singing the national anthem and then the firework show will begin.

The fireworks will be shot off at the end of Third Street. So those at Point Park should direct their lawn chairs toward town, or northeast, to enjoy the show

Handicap parking will be available next to the skate park, and there will be six golf carts available to transport people to Point Park. General parking will be in the field on the north and south side of Highland Avenue. Parking is also open throughout downtown Carrollton and in Prestonville.

In the event of inclement weather, Mayor Gene McMurry said the fireworks could be moved to either Sunday or Monday nights. However, he said the concert would be cancelled and nothing has been determined on the other activities.
