Former M&T workers interested in holding reunion this year

In 1960, The Metal & Thermit Co, as it was called at the time, conceived, designed, and built a highly specialized plant for the manufacture of specialty coatings. These coatings were used in General Electric dishwashers (in Louisville), in Chevrolet station wagons (in Cleveland) and a variety of other metal cabinetry.

In 1962, the company was purchased by the American Can Company, and the name changed to M&T Chemicals. During this time, and until 1970, I had the privilege of serving as plant manager, and watching the workforce grow from five men to over one hundred, spread over three shifts.

As manufacturing director for the division until 1976 I watched it grow even further. Unfortunately, at that time the Can Company went bankrupt and sold off the Coating Division piecemeal. The greatest group of people with whom I have had the privilege of working was dispersed.

Now, after 50 years, a group of us would like to have a reunion. The trouble is...we don’t know where a lot of you are, or if you are interested in getting together for one last ‘hurrah.’

If you are interested, please call Buck Johnson at 732-5409, or John Spenneberg at 732-6159 or Walt Archinal at 732-9953, or Lawson Adcock at 732-5017
