The Carroll County Fair is June 6 – 14 and the Carroll County Cooperative Extension Service is getting ready for this year’s event.
We encourage all Carroll County youth and adults to exhibit items you have made, grown, raised and created so we can showcase our Carroll County talent in the 4-H and Open Class exhibits.
The fair catalog providing exhibit guidelines and rules is included in today’s issue of The News Democrat and copies are now available to pick up at the newspaper office. Get a copy and look over areas where you might enter an exhibit.
Open class entries will be accepted Friday, June 6 from 9 a.m. until noon at the exhibit trailer on the fairgrounds.
Please be considerate and do not wait until noon to bring in your exhibits as the set up staff needs time to get all exhibits placed and ready for judging by 1 p.m. that day. Remember, “the earlier, the better” as to when to bring in exhibits.
Exhibits will be on display Friday night, May 6 and evenings during fair week.
Entries must follow guidelines and specifications for categories listed in the fair catalog. Items not listed in the catalog will not be accepted for entry.
Ribbons and monetary winnings will be awarded. If you have questions prior to entry day, call our office at (502) 732-7030, and we will be happy to help you out.
We hope you will take time to gather and prepare items you have made or grown this year to bring in for exhibit.
Baked items, flowers or vegetables from your garden, hand-crafted items, artwork or photos – we welcome them all. We look forward to many outstanding exhibits at this year’s fair.
We need volunteers on June 6 to help enter exhibits in the morning and assist the judges in the afternoon.
We need lots of exhibit trailer hosts to greet visitors and keep an eye on the exhibits in the trailer evenings during the fair. These are two- to three-hour sessions. Please call the Extension office to let us know if you can help with any of these.
Homemakers annual meeting
Carroll County Extension Homemakers annual meeting, “Turn the Page, the Future is Now,” will be held Tuesday, May 27 at the Carroll County Extension office. Registration is at 6 p.m., with dinner and the program starting at 6:30 p.m.
A special program on the history of Family and Consumer Sciences Extension, which used to be called home economics, will be held.
Members are asked to bring items they have made over the years in Extension Homemakers to display and for the enjoyment of everyone.
Members also are asked to bring items for the silent auction; proceeds will go toward 4-H camp scholarships and other projects.
Reservations can be made at the Extension office and should include the meal for $10. Please be advised that if you are coming into Carrollton at Exit 44 from I-71 South or I -71 North, plan accordingly as there might be traffic delays.
