The Carroll County Panther track and field team competed in the 53rd Annual Mason-Dixon Games Saturday, March 2. The Panthers did well as individuals, but the team scores were not where we wanted them to be, head coach Joe Creager said in an e-mail.
Mason-Dixon is equivalent to Indoor State, and the best competition from Class A was on hand to show what they can do.
The Panthers were led by junior Taylor Byrd, whose diving finish was good enough for fifth place in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.1 seconds.
Josh Gibbs finished in 11th place in boys shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 3.75 inches.
Cody Osborne finished 12th in the 60 meter hurdles at 11.21 seconds and 13th in the boys long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 4.5 inches.
Michael Burns finished 16th in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 26.4 seconds.
Raven Labrada finished 18th in the boys 60-meter dash with a time of 8.98 seconds.
Joe Parker ran the 60-meter dash is 8.98 seconds for 21st place.
Sierra Martinez led the Lady Panthers with 13th place in the 800-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 12.24 seconds.
Maricela Martinez finished 17th in shot put with a throw of 21 feet, 0.5 inches.
Stevie Ogburn came in 18th in the girls 60-meter dash with a time of 9.49 seconds.
Creager said he looks forward to moving the team outside and getting a chance to see what they can do.
The Panthers will be in action at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 for their first home meet of the season.
