J.R. Walker, 2, of Prestonville, flashes a smile from atop his tractor as he sits under the shade of the bridge. Family members said the tractor is Walker’s and his brother’s and they opted to ride down to the celebration on it in an effort to beat Saturday’s heat.
Several girls decided to beat the heatwave by standing under a rain and splash tent set up to help kids cool off. Temperatures were in the upper 90s during the afternoon, with the heat index reaching into the mid-100s. But that didn’t stop a large crowd from turning out for the annual celebration at the city’s park and adjoining areas under the bridge
