Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission is offering free income tax preparation and e-filing of 2010 taxes Feb. 16 and March 3 for taxpayers who have low-to-moderate income—generally $49,000 and below—who cannot prepare their own returns. Due to the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Re-Authorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, the IRS needs to make some changes to its system and until these changes are made, the IRS will be unable to accept returns from individuals who meet one of more of the following criteria: individuals or couples filing itemized deductions with Schedule A; taxpayers claiming the higher education tuition and fees deductions; taxpayers claiming the educator expense deduction. Anyone who meets any of this criteria will be waiting on the IRS to give a green light before electronically filed returns will be accepted. It is estimated that it will be sometime in mid to late February 2011.
For more information please call your Carroll County Neighborhood Center (502) 732-5253.
Dates available are Feb. 16 through March 3.
