Investigations are continuing into the workplace mishap that led to the death of a Becon Construction employee at Trimble County’s Louisville Gas & Electric generating station.

Isidoro Escamilla, 37, died last week in what is only being described by police and company officials as involving “a fall.” Trimble County Deputy Coroner Lee Congleton pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18.

Francis Canavan, media and public affairs manager for Bechtel Corp., the parent company of Becon Construction, said Escamilla was employed as an ironworker and was one of more than 1,000 workers assigned to the job site. He said the company, which has maintained workers at the location since June 2006, has launched an internal investigation to coincide with that of the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.

Cabinet Chief of Staff Kembra Taylor said an OHSA compliance investigator opened an investigation on the day of Escamilla’s death, however she is unsure when the inquiry might conclude.

“The length of time really depends on the circumstances and the number of people to interview,” she said. “It could take days or weeks to complete. It can cover the general contractor, site owner/operator and sub contractors on site. It depends on the situation.”

County sheriff Tim Coons said his department responded to the accident however will not be conducting an investigation.
