James W. Payton, 77

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James W. “Dunnie” Payton, 77, of Louisville died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his home.

Mr. Payton was a retired machine operator for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. He was a member of the Believers Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Minnie Sutherland Payton; a son, Leslie (Stephanie) Payton; two daughters, Wanda (Tony) Cumpton and Sheila (Vernon) Gore; a brother, Isaac (JoAnn) Payton; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Oscar and Lora Payton; and seven brothers, Lawrence, Tommy, Jack, Oldham, Paul, Harold and Carold Payton.

Services were Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Believers Church, Smyrna Parkway, Louisville, with Pastor Randy Hollis officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery.

Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home on Preston Highway in Shepherdsville,Ky., was in charge of arrangements.
