March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, King’s Daughters’ Health is providing free take-home colon cancer screening kits through its KDH Carrollton Medical Building (formerly known as Riverborne) at 205 Marwill Dr. in Carrollton, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. now until April 4.
Easy-to-follow instructions are included with each kit. Once the screening test is completed, patients should return the kit to their physician’s office. Results from the screening exam will be sent to the patient’s physician. If follow-up is needed, the patient will be notified by his or her physician.
The American Cancer Society recommends that people 50 years old and over get this test every year. When detected early, colon cancer can often be treated effectively. Patients with a family history of colon cancer should talk to their provider about beginning colon cancer screenings at an earlier age.
