Carroll finished in fourth place at the Oldham County Spring Break Classic over the weekend.

The Lady Panthers lost their first two pool games against Central Hardin, 7-6, and Holy Cross (Louisville), 3-2, putting them in last place.

However, the girls bounced back Saturday  in the tournament, defeating Bracken County, 6-3, and then taking down Mercer County, 5-4, which was ranked No. 1 in the other pool.

Carroll reached the semifinals of the tournament, but was knocked out by Pickerington Central, out of Ohio, 6-1.

“I was very happy with this weekend because we played some teams that were ranked in the state and competed with them,” head coach Dennis Hawkins said Tuesday. “I feel like we’re right on schedule,” he said. “Our physical skills are there. Now we’re working on our confidence to win. ... We need to realize we can do it.”
