Family and friends of Connor and Dane Mefford will host a fundraiser to benefit the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund.
The sons of Jeremy and Stacey Mefford, Connor, 5, and Dane, 2, live with Fanconi Anemia, a rare genetic disease in which most patients develop bone marrow failure during childhood. Many eventually develop leukemia or other cancers at a very early age.
The Fanconi Anemia Research Fund’s mission is to find effective treatments and a cure for the disease and to provide education and support services to affected families worldwide. It is a vital resource to the Mefford family, as Connor is beginning to show signs of bone marrow failure.
The fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Carroll County. There will be a free bone marrow drive for anyone who wishes to be a donor on the national bone marrow registry. There will also be inflatables, turtle races every hour, silent auction, bake sale, corn hole tournament, vendors, food, face painting and 50/50 raffle. The corn hole tournament will begin at 11 a.m. and the corporate turtle race will occur at 4 p.m. Donations for the silent auction and bake sale are greatly appreciated.
