Versatile star of stage, screen and country music radio Laura Bell Bundy will honor America when she sings “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the green flag waves for Kentucky Speedway’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 on Saturday, June 30.
The accomplished singer/songwriter and multi-talented stage performer from Lexington, Ky., is preparing to release her second country music collection. Her debut Achin’ and Shakin’ album demonstrates traditional and modern country influences with popular singles from the upbeat “Giddy On Up” to the romantic “Drop On By.”
Bundy’s country music roots began to take hold when her parents introduced her to 1960s soul and country. Her grandfather, a radio DJ and newscaster, deepened those influences by acquainting her with artists Patsy Cline, Pearl Bailey, Loretta Lynn, Frank Sinatra and Wille Nelson.
Similar to her idols Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, Bundy set the stage for her music career on New York’s famed Broadway.
She impacted The Great White Way by earning a Tony Award nomination for originating the role of Elle Woods in the musical Legally Blonde. She additionally originated the roles of Amber Von Tussle in the Tony Award winning Broadway musical “Hairspray” and Glinda in the smash hit Wicked. Prior to those appearances, she originated the role of Tina Denmark in the successful off Broadway production “Ruthless, The Musical!” which earned her Outer-Critics Circle Award and Drama Desk nominations.
She helps mentor aspiring stars with former Legally Blonde co-star Paul Canaan through the “Take It to the Top Workshop” by pairing performers in grades 10 through college with current Broadway stars.
She additionally works with Canaan to encourage children to pursue creative arts opportunities through their “Kreative Kids” non-profit organization.
