Trimble County Relay for Life is making great strides in the campaign to fight cancer. More than  40 people attended the April 28 meeting, and 400 registration forms have been turned in.

The events this year will be as varied as the teams. Along with yard sales and car washes, there will be a “Cutie Pie” contest, a bike rally, a tractor ride and chances to win different prizes.

Cutie Pie entries (any age) require a $2 donation, which can be made at the Trimble County Health Department. Spectators at the Relay, set for June 12-13 at Bedford Elementary School, will cast votes and the winner will receive a $25 gift card from Kroger.

Some teams already have held yard sales, and more are planed. The team “Super Heroes Unite to Fight” will hold a yard sale on May 15-16 on Blackmore Drive in Madison, Ind. Signature Health Care of Bedford’s team will have a sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the facility.

Teams “Karaoke for a Cause,” “Team LA Entertainment,” and Signature Health Care also plan bake sales. Wednesday, May 13, is the bake sale at Signature Health Care. Other dates will be announced later.

Chances are $1 each on boy and girl “diaper” cakes, which is not a cake at all but a gift shaped like a cake and constructed of diapers, receiving blankets, baby bottles and notions. Stop by the Health Dept. on Miller Lane to view the pink “cake” for a girl and blue “cake” for a boy.

Handmade step stools also are available for viewing, and you can take a chance to win one of those for $1 each. They make great gifts, and the funding, of course, goes to the American Cancer Society.

Crossroads Church will start its sign-ins at 8 a.m. for the Bike Rally on Saturday, May 23.

The noisiest event likely will be the Klunkers tractor club. Trimble Countians will ride their tractors Saturday, May 9, from Trimble County Middle School on U.S. Hwy. 421/U.S. Hwy. 42 to the Pioneer Power Club’s Antique Tractor Show at Kentucky Motors on Highland Avenue in Carrollton. A $10 donation and a tractor, are required for those who wish to participate.

Biscuits and gravy will warm the bellies of early risers for the Trimble County Semi-Annual Swap Meet at Milton City Park, also this Saturday. The “Super Heroes” will serve breakfast and then host games for the kids and serve hot dogs at lunch. “Clowning for a Cure” also will be there at 11 a.m., serving bean soup and cornbread.

Mount Hermon Church will be the caretaker of theme baskets. Any team wanting to have a basket for the silent auction may leave it at church team’s booth.

The Trimble County Relay for Life wants to do their part in finding a cure for cancer. Everyone is invited to the Relay, which starts at 7 p.m. Friday, June 12, and ends at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 13 at BES. There will be games, food and plenty of fellowship.
