MADISON, Ind. – Luther J. Gray, 76, of Madison died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at the Veterans’s Administration Medical Center, Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services were Thursday, Aug. 21, at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St., Vevay, Ind. Military rites were conducted by the honor guard of the Carrollton American Legion Post No. 41. Burial was in the Vevay Cemetery.
Mr. Gray was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Oldham County to the late James Arthur and Ada Marie (Taylor) Gray. He was raised in Switzerland County, Ind., and was inducted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He married Freda Mae Walston on Dec. 25, 1952.
He was a cement finisher for Jim Browning and his brother, James Gray, for many years, until he retired in 1989. He enjoyed farming and was a member of the Carrollton American Legion Post. He also loved gardening, fishing, hunting and playing guitar.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Donna Jean (Jerry) Johnson of Carrollton, Ky., Judy Kay Gray of Madison and Melinda Gray of Bedford, Ky.; four sons, Michael Lee (Noticke) Gray of Carrollton and Jeffrey Allen Gray, Luther Darrel (Bonnie Lou) Gray and Timothy Wayne (Joanna) Gray, all of Madison; four sisters, Dorothy Browning of Vevay, Katherine Carlton of Aurora, Ind., and Betty Spears and Aileen Buck, both of Lawrenceburg; 22 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Delvin, Chester Lee, Mart “Mutt” and James Gray; and three sisters, Naomi McFarland, Mildred Jester and Judy Carlton.
