Steampipe cleaning

process set to begin

LG&E/KU will be conducting “air blows” at Trimble County 2 Generating Unit to clean the major-boiler steampipe system of debris left behind by the construction process.

General Manager Tom Crutcher said the air blows are necessary before other start-up activities begin as the unit prepares to go online in 2010.

Even though silencers have been installed to reduce the noise generated by the air blows, Crutcher said nearby residents may notice periodic increases in noise at the plant as compressed air is vented into the atmosphere.

The process will begin sometime between Dec. 7-14 and will continue intermittently 24 hours a day for 17 calendar days.
