Grants up to $80,000 considered

Ohio Valley United Charities Inc. is accepting applications for $80,000 in grant money for nonprofit organizations in Carroll, Gallatin, Henry, Owen and Trimble counties for 2012.
Applications are due by noon Tuesday, May 31.

Organizations seeking funds must apply using the form provided by United Charities and must attach a copy of its most recent IRS certification that the organization is a 501(c)(3) entity.

Also required is a detailed history of the project for which funding is sought, the number of people who will benefit from the project and a budget of how the funds will be spent.

“Despite the downturn in the economy last year, we exceeded our fund-raising target so that local nonprofit groups would be assured that they could continue their important projects to the quality of life of our communities,” Ruth H. Baxter, United Charities treasurer, said.

The United Charities Funding Committee, chaired by Malcolm Carraco, will review applications for the grants.

The committee’s recommendations then will be reviewed and approved by the board of directors at its June 14 meeting.

Organizations approved for funding will be notified by Aug. 1.
