Kentucky State Police Troopers from Post 5 responded to a fatal collision  at 9:38 p.m.  Wednesday, Oct. 12 in Trimble County.

The investigation revealed that Patrick Moore, 27, of Sulphur, was operating a motorcycle near the 9900 block of U.S. 421 in Milton when he apparently failed to negotiate a curve, resulting in impact with a nearby guardrail. Both Moore and his passenger, Catherine Nicole Straw (27 years old from Sulphur), were thrown from the motorcycle during impact, according to a state police news release.

Straw was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries by the Trimble County Coroner at the scene at 10:20 p.m. Moore was airlifted from the scene by Air Methods, Inc. and transported to the University of Louisville hospital for serious injuries.

State police report that the preliminary information suggests that alcohol may be a factor. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

Trooper Dustin Corbin, a collision reconstructionist, is leading the ongoing investigation. Trimble County EMS and Milton Fire and Rescue assisted Trooper Corbin at the scene.
