The Carroll County Panthers defeated Oldham County, 6-1 on the road Monday. It was the first game of the season for the Panthers, and the first career high school win for head coach Jimmy Ray.
Senior Dillon Craig pitched five innings of scoreless baseball, and senior Derrick Nickell pitched two strong innings in relief.
Craig also led the team at the plate, going 4-5 with four RBIs.
Ray said he thought the team pitched well and played pretty solid defense. If the team does those things, they will win some games, he said.
However, the Panthers did not hit the ball well, but got timely hits when they needed them. They also took advantage of every miscue Oldham County committed.
Ray said they struck out too much, but did better as the game went on.
“Any time you beat Oldham County at anything, it’s a good win,” he said.
