The Trimble County High School Raiders fought the good fight but lost in tournament play against Spencer County on Friday, Dec. 10, despite a spectacular score at the halftime buzzer.

The Raiders were down 33-27 at halftime, and for a time saw opportunity as Craig Ward tied the game at 33 points with a pair of treys.

“After a period of time we began to turn the ball over and struggle to keep up,” said Head Coach Bob Lauster after the game. “With the score at 42-33, we had to play catch-up, and with our inexperience it was hard to overcome.”

The highlight, he said, was Trent Green’s 55-foot shot right at the halftime buzzer. “He played aggressively.”

Green and Ward both turned in 11 points, followed by Justin Webb, 10; Josh Edington, Zach Adair, Stuart Barnes, Ethan Turner and Blake Renfro, two each; and Austin Rexroat with one point.

The Raiders continued in the tournament Saturday morning against the Saint Marys Vikings, but fell again after another tough fight.

Green lead with 24 points; Webb, 11; Adair, 9; Ward, 7; Turner and Dylan Staples, 2 each; and Barnes with one.

The Raiders’ first win of the season came against Portland Christian, which ended 75-57. “Their team was no match to the Raiders’ Trent Green and Justin Webb,” Lauster said.

Green was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The boys faced off against Kentucky Country Day Tuesday, Dec. 15, after press time. They are set to travel Friday to match up against Oldham County, then will host Walton-Verona on Saturday.

Lady Raiders at Williamstown

The girls also travel to Oldham County on Friday night; game time 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, they also face off against Walton-Verona at home.

During Christmas break, the girls will travel to play in the inaugural South Central Bank – Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville High School in Scottsville, Ky., Dec. 28-30.

Boys versus

Owen Co. Rebels

Prior to last weekend’s tournament play, the Raiders hosted the Owen Country Rebels on Tuesday Dec. 8. They did not come out with a win, but did what they could against what Coach Lauster described as “a college-sized team.”

“We started out with great energy and built up a wall in the first quarter,” Lauster said. “Owen shot well.”

Webb led the Raiders in scoring with 16 points, followed by Ward, 10; Turner, seven; Green, six; Edington, four; and Adair, two.
