Registration seminar planned for eighth graders who will attend CCHS this fall

-A A +A

The Guidance Department of Carroll County High School is sponsoring a registration seminar for parents of students who will attend the high school next school year.

Current eighth grade parents and students will meet with the guidance counselor at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 8. The meeting will take place in the CCHS cafeteria.

This seminar will provide information and materials to assist both parents and students as they plan together for the next school year. Everyone will receive a 2012-2013 Course Registration Guide, which explains course offerings, prerequisites, and suggested elective courses.

They will be given information concerning graduation requirements, technical course offerings and career clusters/majors available at CCHS.

Students and parent will also meet their child’s teachers and get a chance to tour the school.  It is important that everyone understand the connection between their current education and the requirements for post secondary opportunities and workforce training.

The school also will be hosting its spring scheduling conferences from 3:15-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 for our current high school students.  During these 15 minute conferences, parents will meet with a teacher to review their child’s Individual Learning Plan, make changes to course selections for next school year, and will be able to vote for their parent representative for the Site Based Decision Making Council for 2012-13.

Eighth grade parents and students are encouraged to make plans to attend this important registration seminar on Wednesday, March 8. There is a direct correlation to the success of a student in high school and the support and involvement of parents.

The parents’ commitment to this program will serve to strengthen the academic and career portions of your child’s secondary school experience, according to school officials. Anyone who is unable to make any of these two meetings should contact the CCHS office to schedule an appointment with the guidance counselor.
