Registration set for high school students on Thursday, March 3

The guidance department of Carroll County High School is sponsoring a registration seminar for parents of students who will attend the high school next school year. Current eighth=grade parents and students will meet with the guidance counselor on Thursday, March 3 at 5 p.m. The meeting will take place in the CCHS cafeteria.
This seminar will provide information and materials to assist both parents and students as they plan for the next school year. Everyone will receive a 2011-12 Course Registration Guide, explaining course offerings, prerequisites and suggested elective courses. They will be given information concerning graduation requirements, technical course offerings and career clusters/majors available at CCHS. Students and parents will also meet the students teachers and get a chance to tour the school. It is important that everyone understand the connection between their current education and the requirements for post secondary opportunities and workforce training.
Additionally, there will be another opportunity where parents can come to CCHS to signup for classes. On Thursday, March 24, parents can come to the CCHS cafeteria and review their child’s schedule with the guidance counselor anytime from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. They will also be hosting a spring scheduling and report card conferences on Thursday, March 24, for current high school students, from 3:15 -6 p.m. Parents will review a copy of their child’s report card, Think-Link test results and a computerized copy of their child’s 2011-12 schedule will be available. During these 15-minute conferences, parents will meet with a teacher to review their child’s individual learning plan, make changes to course selections for next school year and will be able to vote for their parent representative for the Site Based Decision Making Council for 2011-12. Parents of current 12th graders will also be able to pick up their child’s report card.
Eighth-grade parents and students are encouraged to make plans to attend this important registration seminar on Thursday, March 3. There is a direct correlation to the success of a student in high school and the support and involvement of parents. Your commitment to this program will serve to strengthen the academic and career portions of your child’s secondary school experience.
