Relay For Life silent auction
The annual Carroll County Relay For Life event will take place beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, June 21, at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. A silent auction will be part of the activities scheduled for the evening.
To donate an item or a basket for the auctions, bring it to the fairgrounds the day of the event or call (502) 732-5941 for additional information.
Contestants sought for events
Contestants are needed for the 2013 Relay contest and activities. Participants do not have to be a team or committee member to be involved. This is a chance for anyone to help who would like to raise money for this worthy cause. Relay for Life will host a “Favorite Reality TV Show Contest” at 8: p.m. Friday, June 21 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds. Guidelines are: Select a favorite Reality T.V. show such as “Duck Dynasty,” “Honey Boo Boo,” “Swamp People,” “Turtle Man,” etc. Only two to three people may perform at a time. Time limit for each skit is three minutes. If music is going to be used, the performers must submit the recording only on a CD. Once every group has performed, buckets will be distributed for the contestants to work the crowd. The group with the most money collected will win the grand prize. A prize also will be given for the best dressed/best looking reality stars.
Relay for Life also is looking for couples to be contestants/participants for various other activities that we have planned during the evening. A full schedule of events will appear in next week’s News-Democrat. Mark those calendars and plan to come out and attend the 2013 Carroll County Relay for Life event.
Luminaria ceremony set
At 10 p.m. on Friday, June 21, Relay for Life participants will share in a special luminaria ceremony to remember those individuals who have been affected by cancer. Candles will be lit in honor or in memory of cancer patients and placed around the perimeter of the track. Everyone is invited to support this effort by ordering a luminaria in honor of a loved one who has been touched by cancer. Luminarias are a $5 minimum contribution each.
As part of the luminaria service this year, Relay for Life will celebrate, honor and remember those friends and loved ones who have conquered, are battling, or have lost their battle with cancer by displaying their photos the evening of the relay. If possible, please do not send the original photo, please send a copy of the photo. Photos can be picked up after the luminaria service. Please turn in or mail a copy of the photo along with a completed luminaria form, which will be in next week’s News-Democrat or is available from Relay for Life committee members.
