The week of Oct. 21-27 has been designated as 2013 Retired Teachers Week to promote awareness of how retired educators give back to their community. Carroll County Retired Teachers had a total of 715 volunteer hours. The number is probably much higher because some members do not report their hours. A volunteer hour in 2012 was worth $17.91. Statewide last year, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association members donated more than 703,900 hours, valued at $12.6 million. Carroll County Retired Teachers Association decided to celebrate retired teachers week by making a monetary donation to the Carroll County Public Library. Members will visit some fellow educators, who because of circumstances beyond their control, cannot attend the local meetings.
