The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association was recently awarded the 2013-14 Kentucky Retired Teachers Association Community/School Services Project Grant, with the requirement that the local group had to match the grant with its own funds. The funds in CCRTA’s treasury come from members paying their dues. Members are pictured above presenting the check to Robin Huesman of Family Ties for a weekend food back-pack program starting at Carroll County Middle and Carroll County High schools. Pictured left to right are: Margaret Walker, Claudia Way, Becky Woods, Cheryl Woods, Cassandra McBurney, Donna Wallace, Huesman, Velma Hunt, Pat Perkins and Sandie Roberts. Last year, CCRTA used the grant money for Winn and Cartmell Elementary. In Kentucky, hunger threatens 13.4 percent of its citizens. CCRTA members say they hope the money helps Carroll County students succeed in the learning process.
