The Carrollton Rotary Club is participating in a world-wide initiative sponsored by the Rotary International Foundation to assist in providing clean water to coffee-producing countries. “Clean Water for Coffee” successfully funded water projects in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Bolivia, Haiti, and Honduras in 2009-10 with $50,000 received from Green Mountain Coffee sales. Local club members are selling Green Mountain Coffee in four blends, House, Sumatran Reserve, Rainforest Nut, and House Decaf for $10 per bag.
“It’s a great tasting cup of coffee. We’re drinking it in our office and gave some bags as Christmas gifts,” said club president, Mark Smith. The Club will be selling the coffee all year. “It’s a great way to work together to make a difference to millions of people without clean water,” Smith added.
Green Mountain Coffee pays farmers a fair price for their work through Fair Trade practices. Farmers who are given a fair price for their harvest are better able to support their families. They can afford to use time-honored traditions that produce better quality beans.
The coffee connects you to the world,” Smith said. Email or call Mark Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org, (502) 732-3525 or Matt Lipe at email@example.com, (502) 525-3361 to purchase the coffee.
Carrollton Rotary Club meets Wednesdays at noon at Butler Lodge. Guests are welcome.
