Scouts to collect food for local pantry

-A A +A

The annual Scouting for Food event is on Nov. 17. Cub scouts, boy scouts and members of many community organizations will be out in force next Saturday, Nov. 10, placing flyers at residences to remind folks of the food pick-up that will occur on Nov. 17.

Because of a number of factors, the inventory at our community food pantry is at a critically low level – nearly depleted. With the cold weather upon us and the holiday season right around the corner, this event is more important than ever for a lot of folks.  Please consider donating what you can.

Ideal items include canned/boxed soups, macaroni and cheese, canned meats, spaghetti sauce and pasta, noodles, peanut butter, dried beans, rice, canned fruit, cereal and crackers. avoid items such as canned corn and green beans.

If you live in a rural area and/or do not receive a reminder flyer but you’d like to contribute, donations can be brought to the St. Johns Catholic Church on the morning of Nov. 17, to any local church (on Sunday) or to the Crawford and Baxter law office on Highland Avenue.

These items will be combined with the items that are being collected from the schools, library, churches, etc. – hopefully in record numbers.

Volunteers are welcome. If you would like to participate on either day, please be at the St. John’s Catholic Church by 9 a.m. to receive instructions.
