The Carroll County Middle School eighth-grade baseball team has won three straight games, with victories over Williamstown, Walton-Verona and Highlands Latin.
Head coach Rick McMahan said he is proud of the boys and that it has been a complete team effort.
There are four seventh-graders playing on the eighth-grade team: Eli Yocum, Jake Robertson, Cameron McIntyre and Garrett Sanders, McMahan said.
The eighth-graders defeated Williamstown, 14-2, on Tuesday, April 9. Tyler Stewart pitched four innings for the win. Yocum pitched his first inning of middle school baseball in relief.
The seventh-graders fell 2-1 in a close game to the Demons.
On Saturday, the Panthers played a doubleheader against Walton-Verona and Highlands Latin. The eighth-graders defeated the visiting Bearcats, 4-3, in the morning game. McMahan said defense played a key part in the win, and everyone was hitting the ball. The Panthers have struck out just four times in the last four games. “They’ve been putting the bat on the ball,” he said.
Clark Willhoite got the win on the mound for the Panthers. Jace Walls, Austin Beach, Wyatt Boswell and Yocum each hit doubles in the game.
In game two, Evan McMahan helped lift his team over Highlands Latin with a home run in the bottom of the third. He also hit a triple in the first inning. The Panthers won, 9-3.
Robertson hit two doubles, while Boswell hit a triple. McIntyre was credited with the win on the mound. Both seventh- and eighth-graders played in the game.
Carroll County’s next home game is April 24.
