The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received several calls last week from citizens who were contacted via telephone regarding credit cards. It appears this activity is a scam, Sheriff Jamie Kinman said in a news release.
The typical scenario involves a person receiving a telephone call from a number that appears to be local. The number often appears on caller ID boxes with a 732 exchange and sometimes has a name associated with the number. Upon answering the phone, a solicitation is begun regarding a person’s ability to obtain lower credit card interest rates.
