Shop with a Cop Poker Run Oct. 28

-A A +A

The fifth annual Shop with a Cop Poker Run is Sunday, Oct. 28, beginning at the front entrance to General Butler State Resort Park. Sign-in begins at 9 a.m. and the run will begin at 11 a.m. The cost is $15 for singles, $25 per couple and $5 for extra poker hands.

Coordinator Ron Jones said all of the money raised will benefit the Carrollton Police Department’s Shop with a Cop Program, which provides Christmas presents for children living in the community who may not otherwise receive any. He said people also are welcome to participate in cars or make a cash donation to the Carrollton Police Department.

The approximately 100-mile ride will make stops in Shelbyville, Monterey and Sparta, rain or shine.

The ride will end at the Carrollton Police Department at about 4 p.m. A meal of sandwiches and chili will be provided by the Carroll County Detention Center.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a door prize raffle from prizes donated by area businesses. A live auction with A-Z Auctions’ Ricky Howard will also occur for the larger donations. One of the items being auctioned is a 200 cc trail motorcycle, generously donated by Hackney Trucking Co.

You do not have to participate in the motorcycle ride to participate in the auction.

Jones said he and assistant coordinator Pat Cecil have received a lot of generous donations thus far.   “We’re just hoping to have good weather and a good turnout,” he said.

Raffle items are still being accepted. Contact Jones at (502) 525-9363 for raffle donations or more information.
