Special Olympics thrives with support

Carroll County Special Olympics has had a very successful 2009-2010 sports season.

In the fall, we participated in bowling, both at regional and state level. In January, we went to Perfect North Slopes for Winter Games, competing in alpine skiing and snowshoeing. A basketball team with Carroll and Gallatin County athletes, coached by Tony Carlton of Warsaw, competed in regional competition this February and was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to Tony and his family. Track season cumulated with Summer Games at Eastern Kentucky University, the first weekend in June.

We could not exist without our community support. Deep appreciation goes to Stricker Lanes in Vevay, Ind., for supporting our bowlers and Dow Corning for supporting our ski team.

Thanks to all who supported our catalog sales last fall and the Polar Bear Plunge in the winter. For the plunge, we raised the largest amount we ever have and we received a financial reward from Special Olympics Kentucky. We appreciate those who recently supported our Tupperware sales and Harley raffle sales.

Finally, I offer a few more specific thanks. We could not participate without Dr. Dennis Connard’s willingness to provide physicals for us, or without my friend Pat giving us access to her van. My biggest thanks goes to the parents of the athletes whose support is endless.
